Milestones

• In July- August 2009, Kohli was selected for Emerging Players Tournament that was being played in Australia amongst four teams. He was the leading scorer in that tournament with 398 runs and a batting average of 66.33. His century in the final match against South Africa Emerging players helped India win that match and clinch the title.  Kohli himself said that this tournament was the ‘Turning point’ in his career.

• In the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy, he played as a substitute for the injured Yuvraj Singh. He also played on as a substitute as and when required in the ODI series at Home against Australia. He found huge success in the tri-nation series in Bangladesh in 2010 against Sri Lanka as well as the hosts. He scored his second ODI century making him the third Indian Batsman to score 2 ODI Centuries before their 22nd birthday. He again finished as the tournament’s highest run scorer with an average of 91.66.

• In the tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in May-June 2010, Suresh Rainawas made the Captain of the Indian team, and the 21-year-old Kohli was made the vice-captain as many first team cricketers skipped the tour. Even though India crashed out of the series, Kohli managed to get enough runs to reach 1000 in ODIs, making him the fastest Indian batsman to reach that milestone.
• In the 2010 Asia Cup, Kohli wasn’t quite up to form but he was somehow retained in the ODI team for the next few matches of the Indian Cricket team.

IPL 2016 highest scorer

VIRAT KOHLI is the current captain for the Royal Challenger Bangalore. He contracted with the Royal Challenger Bangalore on the very first Opening of IPL in 2008 for $30,000. Virat Kohli in the IPL first season was not appreciable by the followers and his lovers.  But in the later season of IPL, he keeps improving his batting with a decent strike rate and with nice average as well. Virat recorded as the 3rd highest total in IPL 2010 season. The last season of IPL 2015 was his best season in IPL career as he awarded the top scorer of the tournament securing 505 runs.

Virat Kohli is looking so dangerous for the opposition, due to the bombastic knocks he made out in this tournament. He is the leading scorer in 2016 season of IPL. He made out four centuries and five fifties so far in 13 matches He is keeping and continuing his amazing form in this season of IPL 2016. Regardless of his injury he came out for the game against Kings Eleven Punjab and made out the brilliant hundred to lead his team to win that match. He already considered as one of the specialist players in chasing down the target. He accomplished most of his targets whenever he settled down on the crease. He looks very cool and calm while chasing the target and it’s his specialty to hit the target successfully

Domestic Career

Kohli started the journey for his bright career at the age of 14 when he joined the Delhi Under-15 team. His successful early career began when he scored with an average of 78 in 2003-2004 in Polly Umrigar Trophy. He promoted to Delhi under-17 after a great knock in under-15. He made out some brilliant knocks in his under-17 career in Vijay Merchant Trophy and scored a massive total of 470 scores with an Avg. of 117.

After getting fame in under-17 level; he made his place in under-19 for Delhi. After the joining, he sent to England tour from India under-19 squad, where he amazed the Lalchand Rajput (the coach of India under-19 team).Virat Kohli first class debut was against the Tamil Nadu only at 18 of his age in last of 2006. Virat’s T20 debut was in April 2007 which he had finished as top scorer in the Interstate T20 Championship.Virat Kohli significant achievement was the victory of under-19 Cricket world Cup under his captaincy in 2008. He got much fame from the 2008 world cup title. His performance and captaincy were also outstanding in under-19 World Cup. That was the exceptional talent that makes his way through Indian Premier League for Royal Challenger Bangalore in 2008.

India Under 19 Team Captaincy

In February - March of 2008, he was made the Captain of the India Under 19 Cricket Team for the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia. He returned home victorious and with many achievements under his belt.

Following his spectacular performance in both batting and bowling and also his capacity to keep his cool under pressure, he was bought by the Indian Premier League's Franchise of Royal Challengers Bangalore on a youth contract. He was awarded the Border-Gavaskar scholarship in 2008 along with his U-19 teammates Pradeep Sangwan and Tanmay Srivastava which allowed him to Train for six weeks in Brisbane at Cricket Australia’s Centre of Excellence.

In the July of 2008, he was picked out for the tentative 30 man squad for ICC Championship Trophy to be held later that year.

Iconic former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag is keeping himself busy, doing bold commentary and taking on various issues through his unique approach on Twitter. He has carved out a niche of his own with this stuff. In his latest commentary stint and tweets, a huge amount of curiosity was generated in the cricketing fraternity. And it all had to do with ‘run machine’ Virat Kohli. Viru made these comments during the ongoing third Test at Mohali between India and England.

Viru explained as to how a young and talented Virat Kohli, having made a mark in the shorter formats of the game, cast his influence in the longer format after being given a chance ahead of Rohit Sharma in the Perth Test against Australia during India’s 2012 tour, where he scored 75 & 44. Then, in the very next Test in Adelaide, he registered his maiden ton – a magnificent knock of 116 runs defining sheer patience when the entire team struggled to find runs! However, before the Perth Test, Virat wasn’t amongst runs in Tests and was dropped from the Test side!

Sehwag has revealed how former Test captain and present ODI & T20 captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a big role in saving Virat Kohli’s Test career. A nostalgic Virender Sehwag said, “The selectors wanted to play Rohit Sharma instead of Kohli at Perth in 2012. I was vice-captain and Dhoni was leading the team, and we decided that we have to back Kohli. The rest is history.”

Under 19 Career

In July 2006, Kohli was selected for the India Under-19 Cricket squad for their tour of England. In the three-match ODI tour against England Under-19s, he scored at an average of 105 runs. In the three tests that they played on the same tour, Kohli scored at an average of 49 runs. India Under-19 came back a winner of both the series. He even performed remarkably against Pakistan’s U-19 cricket team later that year.

By this time, Virat had become a permanent fixture in the Delhi U-19 team as he showed his quality batsmanship over and over. He made his First Class Debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu in 2006. He came to spotlight later that year when he continued to play his part in the match against Karnataka even after he’d got the news of his father’s death. He scored 90 runs in that innings and went directly to his father’s funeral from there.

Everyone saw the change in him from then onwards, his sense of responsibility increased and according to his captain, he received a lot of accolades for his attitude and determination.

State and Ranji Career

There are stars, superstars, and then there is Virat Kohli. The stylish right-hand batsman is regarded as one of the best players in the world and has earned the respect through some brilliant knocks in all formats.

So, what has gone into the making of Virat, the batsman? How has he managed to become the supreme force in the Indian batting line-up?

The challenges in front of him seem to drive Kohli's batsmanship. The tougher the challenge, the better the batsman Kohli is on the day.

Hence, in just 174 ODIs, he already holds the record for the most centuries (14) in successful chases. When there is a target in front of the Delhi lad, he always paces his innings well and is determined to stay till the end to take the team over the line.

Apart from his determination and hard work, the Indian Test captain has also been excellent at detecting flaws in his technique and finding solutions for them throughout his career.

Even in Tests, Virat Kohli’s away average of 44.61 is only a little lower than his career average of 45.56. He has notched a hundred in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies.It wasn’t long before Virat was noticed by the scouts. He played for Delhi Under-15 team for the first time in October 2002 in the 2002-2003 Polly Umriger Trophy. Scoring the highest number of runs that year, he was made the Captain for the next year. In the 2003-2004 Polly Umrigar trophy, he scored two centuries and two fifties, totalling 390 runs in 5 innings.
